Governance

To support the interoperability effort, implement the Statewide Plan, and ensure that the needs of responders are met, Virginia established a practitioner-driven governance structure. The structure consists of a full time Commonwealth Interoperability Coordinator’s Office (CICO), the State Interoperability Executive Committee (SIEC), and the State Interoperability Advisory Group (Advisory Group). In addition to these established governance bodies, when needed Initiative Action Teams (IATs) are assembled to convene stakeholders and experts in specific fields to collaborate on interoperability issues. The governance structure and flow of information are depicted in the figure below.
